Follow these tips to sweep your bride off her feet and start your wedding night in style.

You rarely get to practise this, so when the moment comes to scoop your lady into your arms, these tips will already put you one step over the threshold – on the right side.

1. Ask the bride to put her arms around the back of your neck
2. Slide one arm under the backs of her knees and the other behind her lower back/hips
3. Keep the bride as upright as possible – carrying her horizontally is much trickier
4. Don't try to go through the door with her toes and head pointing at the door frame
5. When you go through the door sideways, make sure the hand she has behind your neck doesn't bump into anything
6. Minimise the risks: ditch the hoop skirt, make sure the floor isn't particularly slippery and that there are no surprise steps behind the threshold
