How to rappel down

On this page, you’ll find more information about what many consider the most thrilling and fun moment of our games – escaping from the building by rappelling down

What does rappelling down mean?

You can top off the escape game by escaping from the hospital balcony by rappelling down. The ropes are attached to your harness with a carabiner, and you can either sit in the air like on a swing or walk down the building wall with your feet. Your right hand holds onto one rope and your left hand controls the speed by sliding along the other rope. Rappelling down requires no strength. Toni holds onto your belay rope throughout the entire descent, and if you accidentally let go of the rope, he’ll make sure you don’t fall even then. Toni has taught rappelling in the army and ensured the safety of thousands of descents.

Frequently asked questions

Which games include rappelling?

Rappelling is automatically included in all our Premium and Classic+ games.

From what height does the rappelling take place?

The descent is from the third floor, about nine meters.

Does everyone have to rappel down?

Everyone gets to decide for themselves whether they want to escape by rappelling or not. Part of the group can choose not to rappel if they wish.

How does rappelling down work?

You stand with your back to the direction you’re going, hold lightly onto the upward rope with your right hand and the downward rope with your left hand. Your left hand holds the rope roughly at lower back level, and when you want to slide down, you loosen your grip on the rope slightly without letting go completely. Your left hand slides along the rope and your right hand stays in place. You can straighten your legs and walk down along the wall.

What equipment is needed for rappelling?

For rappelling, you’ll get a harness, gloves, and a helmet if you want one from us. Rappelling is easier in pants than in skirts, and long hair and beards should be tied back for the descent. Flat-soled shoes are also more comfortable than high heels.

Does rappelling down require strength?

Actually, no. If you can hold a pen, you can control your descent speed yourself.

What if I accidentally let go?

Even if you accidentally let go, Toni holds onto the belay rope throughout the entire descent and prevents you from falling.

A woman descends by rope. A man secures the descent.

Are there any restrictions for rappelling down?

The most limiting factor for rappelling is the harness. In the very late stages of pregnancy, it probably wouldn’t feel very comfortable for the mother or baby. Our smallest children’s harnesses fit approximately a 5-year-old. Our largest harnesses fit a person weighing about 140 kilograms.

Does any injury prevent rappelling down?

We can control your speed for you throughout the entire descent, so you can rappel down even if your hands or feet don’t work. However, rappelling does require that your legs can be threaded through the loops that go around the thighs in the harness.

Is rappelling down safe?

In rappelling, we follow TuKes safety regulations. We always check the ropes before the group’s descent and make sure everyone’s harness is put on correctly. Rappelling always takes place under supervision so that each descent is secured by a trained person.
